News & Events CLARET STUDENTS ENUGU MOURN DEATH OF DOWEN STUDENT, SYLVESTER OROMONI

News  |  Posted on: 7th Dec 2021 - 02:58 pm

The death of Sylvester Oromoni, a JSS2 student of Dowen College Lekki has hit hard on parents, school managers, students and the general public alike. Today, the 7th of December, the students of Claret Academy, Enugu held a minute silence for his peaceful repose. The director, Fr Matthew Mmuo cmf, while speaking to students and staff about the unfortunate incident, reiterated the schools no-nonsense policy on bullying, cultism and molestation of any kind.

He reminded the teachers that the parents have given their kids on trust to the school and so there must be total dedication to caring for the students and doing proper follow-up to suspicions or reports. He encouraged students to always speak up truthfully about any issue that bothers them either from within the school or outside, and to feel free to confide in their form teacher, the school counselor or Chaplain.

Claret schools, following the universal Catholic education policy, are known for building champions today for tomorrow. One virtue that is enthroned at the school is standing up for justice and fairness. That's why for the last two years, female students have won the elections for senior Prefects comfortably.

Also, every session, the school has always organised what is called 'heart-to-heart' where the students have the opportunity to discuss with a counselor and open up and discuss things troubling them.

We pray for the Oromoni family that they be consoled over this painful loss of Sylvester jnr. Amen
